Cutting / Serving Boards

All boards that I make are coated with a 100% food safe combination of mineral oil and beeswax - the most common way to treat wooden boards. Following the tips below will ensure that your cutting board or cheese board will live a long and happy life.

Wash your board after use with hot water and mild dish soap. Wipe off with a clean towel and let it air dry - preferably standing up so air can circulate on all sides. Never put your cutting board in the dishwasher!

The board should be treated with mineral oil at least every 4-6 weeks, but preferably once a month - and more frequently during winter or other dry periods to avoid drying and cracking of the board. Mineral oil is very inexpensive and completely food safe, and can be found at most drug stores like Walgreens, CVS, etc.

Mineral oil should also be applied if you notice any small cracks, if the board becomes rough to the touch, or you notice any liquids start to absorb into the wood. Do not use edible oils for board treatment (vegetable oil, olive oil, etc) as they could become rancid.

Use a mixture of mineral oil and beeswax for a more stable and reliable protective coat on your board.

When treating the board, remember to coat all sides (not just the top) or it could lead to warping.

Utensils

All utensils that I make are coated with a 100% food safe combination of mineral oil and beeswax - the most common way to treat wooden kitchen products. Following the tips below will ensure that your utensils will live a long and happy life.

Wash your utensils immediately after use with hot water and mild dish soap. Wipe off with a clean towel and let it air dry. Never put them in the dishwasher!

Utensils should be treated with food grade oil (mineral oil is the cheapest, and is 100% food safe) at least every 4-6 weeks, but more frequently during dry seasons or if you want to maintain a brand new look.
